Where will my bodywork session take place?
The bodywork modalities that I practice allow you to remain fully clothed, with the exception of removing your shoes.  Your session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table, or sit in a chair especially designed for your comfort.

What type of clothing should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing such as cotton tee shirts and lightweight cotten pants such as chinos or jerseys.  Please do not wear denim jeans and plan to remove your belt as some of the moves will be at your waistline.

What will the bodywork feel like?
The moves are done in a series of sequences and are very gentle.

Are there different kinds of bodywork?
There are numerous types of bodywork.  The three that I practice are Bowenwork, Foot Reflexology and Polarity, each utilizing different and very gentle techniques.  If you are not already familiar with these modalities, you can review the information here on my website or research information on the Internet.  I do NOT subscribe to the "no pain, no gain" approach; rather, I believe that our human body seizes or tightens up when in pain, which is contrary to the relaxation response we are seeking for healing.

What (if anything) should I do during the session?
Prior to your session, feel free to ask me any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During  the session, make yourself comfortable.  I will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, a blanket or pillow, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during and after a session, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your session.

What are the benefits of bodywork?
Alternative bodywork modalities can help release muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make bodywork inadvisable?
There may be. That's why it is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
